Design By Evolution This
section is designed to illustrate the awesome power of random
mutation and natural selection in the evolution of information and
complexity. It draws on the practical disciplines of Evolutionary
Computing (e.g. Genetic
Algorithms) and Directed
Enzyme Evolution, and it reviews the empirical evidence for macroevolution.
Currently this section is limited to resources for college
students (see below), but it is in the process of being updated
for the public.
Are mosquitofish useful in
mosquito control?
-
Mosquitofish often have adverse
ecological impacts on aquatic communities when introduced outside
their native range.
-
Mosquitofish introductions are
usually unsuccessful in controlling mosquito larvae in complex
natural settings.
-
Mosquitofish can be very
effective in controlling mosquito larvae in simple artificial
settings, such as stock tanks and ornamental ponds. (link)
